Adware Warning

Postby oma53 » Wed Apr 02, 2008 6:59 pm

I recently found the following warning in AVG 8.0.
FOUND ADWARE GENERIC
HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\ACTIVEX COMPATIBILITY
I have sent this in to AVG but while I am waiting for an answer, I was wondering if anyone else has seen this warning.
If I tell AVG to put this in the virus vault, it just comes back whenever the computer is booted again.
Thank You.

I may have found the problem.
I recently installed Windows Cumulative Security Update for IE 7 944533 and received the following warning:
FOUND ADWARE GENERIC
HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\ACTIVEX COMPATIBILITY
I put these two warnings in the virus vault and was then told by windows update that I needed to install the 944533 update again.
I installed this again and again received the warning when I scanned my system.
I have repeated this 3 times now with the same results.
Why is this update conflicting with AVG 8.0?
Tech support has stated that I should send the items to the virus vault and has so far not addressed the (possible) conflict with Windows Update.
This is the current build of AVG 8.0 and is updated correctly.
Thank You.

This is something AVG is going to have to resolve. Hopefully they will address it soon in a patch.
